Vegan Food in Agra, India

Taste of Agra

After arriving in Agra and finding our guesthouse, we started exploring. The first thing I like to do is explore the city. The place seems relaxed with nice decent markets and affordable sari shopping. One of the things I love about India is that there are so many vegan food options everywhere you go. We spotted one vendor with a snack I was curious about. He had these round hollow balls and they filled them with different spices and mint water.

It is called golgatta or puchka and as if I knew it: The snack is vegan. I was a bit sceptical because of the water they use but I tried it and it was a surprising taste like a little bomb that explodes in your mouth, really delicious. It was definitely worth trying!

Our first stop was the Agra Red Fort which is a World Heritage Site and has a stunning array of monuments. I love the beautiful carved marble tiles, they were perfectly in symmetry.

The best time to visit the Taj Mahal is at sunrise. It has magnificent architecture and is known as the symbol of love. We were lucky as there were not many people around so we could enjoy this unique moment in a calm environment.

If you’re heading to Agra and want to catch a quiet view of the monument, head to the back of it. Mehtab Bagh remains open till 12am every day, including Friday. With a monument as grand as the Taj Mahal, all you want is to sit and stare.
